Ambition earns trust through integrity.
Moonshot Prize is a founding initiative designed to bring exceptional ideas and patient philanthropy together in service of human progress.
A purpose that can endure
The initiative is being developed by Dr. Freedom Cheteni as a proposed endowment program of Global Moonshots in Education, Inc., with board approval pending. Its formal program scope, governing authority and prize cycles remain subject to appropriate board approval. No award purse or endowment total is represented as funded.
Our founding principles
- Independent judgment. Evidence and qualified human assessment guide prize consideration. Donor support does not confer judging authority.
- Consequential benefit. A breakthrough should explain whom it serves, how it helps and what evidence supports the claim.
- Accountable ambition. Limitations, conflicts and uncertainty belong in the record alongside achievements.
- Long-term stewardship. Intentions, agreements and received resources must remain distinct, with supporting records and clear responsibility.
- Human authority. Assistance can support administration, but an automated system does not choose laureates or authorize money movement.
The platform’s operating controls
Private accounts, server-side access checks and restricted document access protect application records. Reviewers receive assigned scientific materials, disclose conflicts and record reasoned assessments. Administrative changes are recorded in an audit history.
What remains part of institution building
Formal committee appointments, competition-specific eligibility rules, funded purses, schedules, gift-acceptance terms and operational policies will be announced as they are approved. Submitting an early expression of interest does not create eligibility for a prize or a binding financial relationship.
Partnership conversations
The initiative welcomes conversations with family offices, researchers, philanthropic institutions and conveners. Opal Group is the proposed annual host. Hosting arrangements, dates and venue remain to be confirmed. The initiative is inspired by contributions from families in the Opal Group network; no network member is represented as a committed donor.
Proposed independence and integrity framework
The consultation rulebook sets out conflict disclosure, recusal, donor separation, attribution, safeguarding, no-award conditions and independent procedural review. These provisions require formal adoption and accountable appointments before a competition opens.
